- Dimethyl phthalate is a phthalate with molecular formula (CH3)2(C6H4(COO)2). It is the methyl ester of phthalic acid.
- Dimethyl phthalate is an ectoparasiticide and has many other uses, including in solid rocket propellants, plastics, and insect repellants.
- Diethyl Phthalate (DEP) is a plasticiser widely used in tools, automotive parts, toothbrushes, food packaging, cosmetics and insecticide. The fact that cosmetics contain phthalates is not a problem and poses no risk to either human health or the environment. Indeed, the use of DEP in cosmetics has been specifically supported by the EU Scientific Committee for Cosmetic Products.
- Di Ethyl Phthalate is a plasticizer largely used in the manufacture perfumery compounds, agarbatti (incense sticks) and as a fixative in the manufacture of perfumes, attars, etc., DiEthyl phthalate plasticizer is also used in the processing of Cellulose Acetates. DEP is also used as a denaturant for Ethyl Alcohol.
